Edson Alvarez next steps outlined after being left out of West Ham squad vs Wolves

Edson Alvarez was once again left out of West Ham United's squad on Tuesday ahead of the transfer window closing.

The Mexico international had been widely expected to leave the London Stadium prior to now.

Alvarez has not yet featured in any of West Ham's four Championship fixtures, but he did play 75 minutes in the Carabao Cup win over Portsmouth.

Olympiacos and San Jose have been looking to sign Alvarez, who wants out of East London.

However, a new update shared on the midfielder on Tuesday makes for interesting reading.

Why is Edson Alvarez staying at West Ham?

Alvarez's absence from the side to face Wolves at the London Stadium only amplified suggestions he could be off.

However, The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg posted via X that Alvarez is set to stay at West Ham this window.

This is said to be down to the Irons' financial demands, which other clubs are unwilling to meet.

It will now likely be a case of Nuno Espirito Santo integrating Alvarez back into his side over the coming days and weeks.

Alvarez wasn't the only player left out of West Ham's squad on Tuesday night, either.

What's next for Soungoutou Magassa?

Soungoutou Magassa is another who has faced big questions over his future beyond deadline day.

He was not included against Wolves, but Steinberg pointed out West Ham want to keep him.

This is despite bids coming in for the Frenchman this window.

So as things stand, both men will remain at West Ham until at least January in what on paper is a boost for Nuno.
