Edson Alvarez has hinted that he will return to action for West Ham United against Wrexham.

The Hammers host Phil Parkinson's side at the London Stadium on Friday, in hopes of returning to the top of the Championship table with a win.

Nuno Espirito Santo has yet to be able to use a really experienced holding midfielder in the Championship, with both Tomas Soucek and Alvarez absent for different reasons.

As for the Mexico international, he failed to secure a move back to Ajax, while a loan transfer to Koln also fell through this summer.

He now looks set to stay in E20 until the January window at the very least, which means he and Nuno may need to iron some things out.

In a possible dramatic turn of events, Alvarez's latest social media post suggests he may play for West Ham again, maybe even as soon as the game against Wrexham.

Alvarez is expected to stay at West Ham until the winter, even with transfer windows still open in the likes of Saudi Arabia.

That said, he is earning a living at Rush Green for nothing right now, unless Nuno decides to start playing the 31-year-old once again.

The Mexican featured in the 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Portsmouth, but has not been in any of West Ham's matchday squads since speculation over his future.

Alvarez has now posted a new hint on his Instagram story, which features him wearing a West Ham kit, followed by a lion image which has been placed over the image.

The post followed a statement that was uploaded minutes prior, in which he rejected allegations over a separate matter, including other media reports connecting him to events related to his former partner.

Could Alvarez play for West Ham against Wrexham? It seems more likely now.

How Nuno has best Championship midfield all of a sudden

With Alvarez expected to stay at West Ham alongside Soungoutou Magassa, things have become interesting.

Nuno has been starting Arne Engels and Mohamadou Kante in midfield, while Lewis Orford has also been making appearances.

Not only that, but Tomas Soucek has returned to first-team training for the Hammers.

There is six top-class options that Nuno has, with three of them all coming back into contention after the window slammed shut.

Nuno now has a real headache on his hands, but no doubt some will leave come the January window.
