West Ham source shares if Edson Alvarez and Soungoutou Magassa could still seal London Stadium exit

Edson Alvarez and Soungoutou Magassa have not yet been able to find an exit route out of West Ham United.

The midfield duo have both been searching for a way out of the London Stadium throughout the summer.

Mexico midfielder Alvarez spent last season in Turkey with Fenerbahce, but could not find a buyer despite links to Real Sociedad and Sevilla.

Magassa, 22, only joined the Hammers in the summer of 2025, and was reportedly on the radar of Crystal Palace.

A move did not materialise for him either, though, and both players are in a state of limbo as things stand.

Some window in Europe are still open, and now Sean Whetstone has shared his latest understanding of their situations.

What's the latest with Alvarez and Magassa at West Ham?

Whetstone was sharing knowledge from a source in his latest round up for Claret&Hugh.

He noted how there are still some options available in terms of moves to Europe, with Switzerland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic all closing on Tuesday, while Greece for instance does not shut until next Tuesday.

Moreover, the Saudi Pro League's window does not close until 12 October, and has provided an exit route for several players in the past.

However, Whetstone revealed that his source said that neither player is now expected to leave West Ham in the coming days.

Nuno Espirito Santo is said to be a fan of Alvarez's and could look to bring him back into contention.

Magassa has reportedly apologised to management and team-mates for trying to force his way out, and could come into Nuno's thinking when he has recovered from an injury.

Should Nuno use Magassa and Alvarez for West Ham?

Nuno has some decent options in the centre of the park right now.

West Ham paid big money to sign Arne Engels, while Divine Mukasa is back at the Hammers on loan from Manchester City.

Throw Mahamadou Kante into the equation, and there is no obvious route to a starting berth for Alvarez and Magassa.

Having said that, the Championship can be an absolute grind, with the games coming thick and fast.

The Hammers are bound to pick up injuries and suspensions at some point.

Essentially, if Alvarez and Magassa are truly contrite, and are ready to properly contribute to the cause, then what's the point in ostracising them?

If they're there, you might as well utilise them.
