Dharmesh Sheth details Southampton compromise for West Ham United to sign James Ward-Prowse
West Ham and Southampton will have to reach a compromise to conclude the sale of midfielder James Ward-Prowse, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist tweeted on 2 August that the Hammers haven’t given up on signing the Saints’ captain, but that they have started looking at alternative targets.
Sheth said Southampton will have to make a compromise over the 28-year-old, with West Ham encouraged by the player’s desire to move to East London.
Standoff
There appears to be a bit of a standoff between the Hammers and Southampton over Ward-Prowse as one of them is going to have to change their valuation of the player to allow the deal to go ahead.
It doesn’t so far look like that’s going to be the Championship side, who have held firm on their £40million asking price throughout the summer.
Meanwhile, West Ham have already seen at least two bids rejected for the midfielder – the latest on 2 August that was reportedly worth about £30million – so they look like the club most desperate to get it done.

The sensible thing would be for the two sides to meet in the middle at £35million, but that seems to be quite a lot more than the Irons wanted to spend on the England international after their first bid was worth about £20million.
All the talk is that we’ve now moved away from the deal, but that probably isn’t true as David Moyes has wanted to sign him for a long time and reinforcements are needed as soon as possible.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes has been tipped to be the first PL manager to be sacked next season.
