David Moyes pulls plug on West Ham exit to Aston Villa for Darren Randolph – Dharmesh Sheth
Dharmesh Sheth interrupted Sky Sports News host Mike Wedderburn on Wednesday to break a major update on Darren Randolph’s future at West Ham.
It had been reported that Aston Villa were in talks to sign Randolph, 34, from the Hammers but Sheth now reports that David Moyes has blocked a move for the goalkeeper and has instead offered him a new contract.
Speaking on Sky Sports News’ Transfer Show on Wednesday night [05:26pm], Sheth added that Steven Gerrard was keen on taking Randolph to Villa Park but that deal is no longer happening because of Moyes.

Sheth said: “Mike, just one quick line to bring you.
“Remember earlier on this week we were saying Aston Villa are in talks with West Ham United about trying to sign Darren Randolph as cover for Emiliano Martinez?
“Well, developments today and this has come from my colleague Keith Downie, he says that Darren Randolph will not be joining Aston Villa after David Moyes told him he wants to keep him at West Ham United.
“Randolph had been in talks, as I said, with Villa this week but Moyes has instead convinced him to stay with West Ham and has offered him a new deal.
“Steven Gerrard had been keen, of course, to bring in Randolph as cover but as it stands, it looks like Randolph is staying at the London Stadium.”

No deal
Why does Randolph need to be offered a new contract?
West Ham may as well get Lukasz Fabianski to pen new terms and then after that, they also have Alphonse Areola to come in on a permanent basis from Paris Saint-Germain when his loan ends.
Randolph is obviously a decent third-choice goalkeeper as he’s a Republic of Ireland international with heaps of experience in English club football.
But isn’t it time to freshen things up a bit?
Sam Johnstone is someone who’s been heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium and it would be great to have a goalkeeping duo of him and Areola next season.
We don’t really want to see Fabianski move on but it’s fair to say that there are young and potentially better options out there than the Polish shot-stopper.
As for Randolph, we’d rather have a young up-and-comer as our third-choice shot-stopper.
But we do get that sending him to Aston Villa will be strengthening a team that could be very dangerous in the second half of the season.
