Danny Ings transfer update emerges at Southampton as West Ham United face uphill battle

Sources at Southampton have distanced themselves away from a move for West Ham United striker Danny Ings, according to talkSPORT.

The outlet reported on its website on Tuesday (9 July) that the Irons are facing an “uphill battle” to sell the Englishman this summer as they look to clear his wage of around £120,000 a week off of their bill.

Ings is eager to remain at the London Stadium and fight for his place under Julen Lopetegui this season and his enormous wages have proven to be a stumbling block as the Hammers look to sell him.

West Ham would be interested in using the space in their wage bill made by Ings’ departure to fund a move for a new forward with Alexander Sorloth as one possible option for Lopetegui and Tim Steidten.

Will Danny Ings exit West Ham United in the summer transfer window?

Ings’ wages were always going prove to be a problem for West Ham this season as not only will he not want to give up his current contract, but very few clubs will be anywhere near willing to match that fee given his recent form.

That makes it very hard for the Irons to push him out of the exit door between now and the start of the new season, especially if he does genuinely want to fight for his place under the new management team.

Maybe if the Irons managed to recruit one or potentially two new forwards before the end of the transfer window, that would show the former Saints forward that his game time would be limited in the Premier League once again.

Every player wants to play football and while some are more than happy to sit on a good contract, Ings isn’t at that stage of his career now. Playing week in and week out will likely be more important to him than money.

Hopefully, an agreement can be reached as it has been clear for a while now that he isn’t the right fit for the Hammers.
