Dael Fry has emerged as a surprise early target for West Ham United.

Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed his intention to stay at the London Stadium, despite relegation to the Championship.

With West Ham already suffering losses in the Premier League, there is an acceptance that they'll need to sell several players.

That hasn't happened yet, meaning West Ham are already facing uncertainty around incoming transfers.

Ironically, free transfers have been a running theme of early links, with Adam Webster mentioned as he leaves Brighton.

It's Dael Fry at Middlesbrough who is catching the most attention though, and the latest on his contract is music to the ears of the Hammers.

Football contracts commonly run until June 30.

That means Fry officially becomes a free agent on Wednesday, where West Ham could make their move.

Despite that, Teesside Live has reported that the defender wants to stay with Boro, with talks ongoing.

West Ham will be watching Fry closely, though, with several resolutions needed before a new contract is agreed there.

After suffering several injuries, Boro are said to be reluctant to overpay their captain in his next deal as red tape begins to hit continued talks.

Nuno will be ready and waiting to take advantage, it seems.

Who could Dael Fry replace at West Ham?

Despite zero exits being agreed yet, there is set to be several of them at the London Stadium before we know it.

Mateus Fernandes, Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville are the high-profile exits expected, but the most change could come in defence.

Konstantinos Mavropanos is expected to move on, while Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman could follow, with Axel Disasi already back at Chelsea.

That leaves Nuno and the Irons needing several reinforcements.

Fry may be in talks with Middlesbrough still, but the fact that his free agency starts on Wednesday opens the door for West Ham to trump them.

Not only can they offer more money, but a bigger chance at promotion and the opportunity to live in the capital, which is another massive pull.

The Hammers are hours away from a dream scenario with Fry, and it could end with their first signing of the summer already.
