Brentford could finalise the signing of Callum Wilson as early as Thursday, with West Ham now needing to move on.

The experienced striker left West Ham just over a week ago after spending a year at the London Stadium, though there was still some hope he would agree fresh terms.

In that time, Wilson scored seven Premier League goals and registered one assist in 1,242 league minutes.

Operating as a backup to Taty Castellanos at the back end of the season, he would leave West Ham having not struck up the best of relationships with Nuno Espirito Santo.

Now, the next move is on the cards for the 34-year-old.

In a scenario best for all parties, Wilson is closing in on a switch to Brentford.

Fresh Brentford details emerge as free agent move draws closer for Callum Wilson

As per Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas via X, Wilson underwent his medical with the Bees on Wednesday.

This came just eight days after his West Ham departure.

Keith Andrews' side finished ninth in the standings last season, narrowly missing out on a European spot.

Striker Igor Thiago would score 22 times, with Wilson now seen as an ideal backup to the Brazilian.

At 34, the striker is vastly experienced across English football.

Having achieved varying levels of success at Bournemouth, Newcastle and West Ham, he most definitely knows the league, and could have had a huge impact in the Championship.

Nuno, though, made his thoughts clear last term, with the Brentford move now highlighting exactly what he wants to avoid

Nuno Espirito Santo has other ideas as West Ham regeneration commences

Following the confirmation of relegation back in May, Nuno's future at the helm was sealed.

Having had success in the Championship before, he will trust in himself to not just take the Irons back to the top flight, but to also push them back into the mid-table and European mix.

Wilson would have been an excellent short term solution, but it is clear that Nuno is not interested in that.

Castellanos impressed in spells following his January arrival, and looks to be the man West Ham want to build around for the long-term.

Nuno clearly has this in his mind, and wants to avoid having to search for more solutions yet again should his side ascend back to the Premier League come May.
