All 77 players West Ham failed to sign in summer transfer window, but Premier League winner can still technically join

West Ham United certainly had a turbulent summer transfer window.

There was a desperate need for the Hammers to go out and improve their squad after relegation.

That was only made all the more difficult when Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville departed for massive fees.

Nuno Espirito Santo needed to replace them, but it took a while to get that done.

Joel Veltman was the first signing of the summer and was ultimately followed by Manor Solomon, Arne Engels, Joel Piroe, Divine Mukasa, Edvin Austbo, Morato and Adama Boiro.

These signings will hope to make a difference at the London Stadium, but for now, we focus on the players who didn't come through the door in E20.

Who did West Ham at the start of the transfer window?

A drop into the second tier on the final day of the Premier League season meant that a new approach was needed in claret and blue.

That saw thought of signing names with experience of English football emerge.

The window started with links to the likes of Bobby Thomas, Dylan Lawlor, Bobby Clark, Ethan Galbraith, Dom Ballard, Zan Vipotnik, Adam Webster, Dan Neil, CJ Egan Riley and Abdul Fatawu.

The Standard reported interest in the latter as late as June, as the Hammers were in the race long before his move to Ipswich Town.

That trend continued with the likes of Dael Fry, Harrison Burrows, Anthony Musaba and James McAtee, with TEAMtalk suggesting in July that the Nottingham Forest man could have come in for a Championship record fee, but that obviously never happened.

There was less knowledge among the Hammers fan base when the likes of Armando Gonzalez and Alpha Toure emerged as targets.

They were followed by an ambitious approach for Andreas Schjelderup as he was viewed as a potential alternative for Summerville.

Martin Adeline, Evander, Gabriel Pereira and Mory Gbane also cropped up as relative unknowns.

Rangers midfielder Connor Barron was eyed before he ultimately sealed a late move to Middlesbrough, while Tommy Watson went on to join Leicester City in League One.

This represented just the start of the window for West Ham and the madness only continued moving into July.

West Ham had busy end to the summer

The majority of signings at the London Stadium came in the final weeks of the window.

That came off the back of many transfer rumours, which only continued to hot up throughout July and August.

Ambition was a theme of the window and was often misplaced as the likes of Ruben Vargas, Dwight McNeil and Gustavo Sa all emerged as targets.

There were also links to recognisable faces in the EFL with Matt Targett, Ben Nelson and Issa Kabore alongside Morgan Whittaker, Harry Souttar, Nestory Irankunda and Sydie Peck.

That made way for the lesser known names Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Minsu Kim, Jaden Dixon, Tomas Chory, Bamba Dieng, Bastien Meupiyou and George Ilenikhena.

Sacha Tavolieri provided the link to Ilenikhena just months after his move to Al Ittihad, where he remains to the day.

Jordan James and Simon Adingra felt as if they would have made a true difference, but weren't brought in for various reasons.

There was less known about moves for Mamadou Mbow, Rav van den Berg, Daniel Job, Mikel Gogorza and Jocelin Ta Bi, with Foot Mercato journalist Sebastien Denis keeping tabs on interest in the latter from throughout the Championship.

Attention soon turned to defensive options as Nuno eyed moves for Emmanuel Fernandez, Ethan Pinnock, Nelson Deossa, Harry Amass, Caleb Wiley, Axel Disasi, Ladislav Krejci and Taylor Harwood-Bellis later in the window.

The final stages of the summer followed suit with the rest as so many names were linked.

Simon Collings covered keen interest in Amario Cozier-Dubbery, while the likes of Reiss Nelson, Ibrahima Balde and Mikel Gorgorza came to the fore.

Moves never happened for any of those, while Burnley moved to sign Irons targets Reo Hatate and Largie Ramazani.

Both claret sides eyed a move for Hull City's Ryan Giles, but were ultimately unsuccessful.

The same can be said for West Ham in their last-gasp moves for Josha Vagoman, Max Aarons, Melvin Bard, Michael Keane, Caglar Soyuncu, Wout Faes and Anass Salah-Eddine.

West Ham could yet sign a new striker

There was a clear desire for the Hammers to sign a new striker throughout the summer.

Eventually, Joel Piroe came in from Leeds United, but he certainly wasn't the initial target.

That title belongs to Troy Parrott, but he ultimately moved to Real Betis instead of the London Stadium.

Wilson Isidor was also seen as a target and Alan Nixon reported that the E20 outfit were willing to double his wages to get him from Sunderland, but no dice.

West Ham's search for a striker may not be over.

Jamie Vardy has been viewed as a target throughout the summer as a free agent.

He is yet to make a decision on his next club and could still complete a move to link up with Nuno with the hope of getting back to the Premier League 10 years after he won it with Leicester City.

That transfer could bring the curtain down on what has been an up-and-down few months for everyone at the London Stadium.
