Aaron Wan-Bissaka stance on West Ham United move shared amid transfer update

West Ham transfer target Aaron Wan-Bissaka is “very keen” on a move to the London Stadium as talks continue, according to TEAMtalk.

TEAMtalk reported on 31 July that the 26-year-old Manchester United right-back wants to make the switch to East London this summer, and talks between the two sides are “very close” to completion.

While a fee is yet to be finalised, Manchester United value Wan-Bissaka at £15-20million but could reportedly let him join the Hammers for as little as £10m [Florian Plettenberg, 22 July], with the clubs currently working on the structure of any potential deal.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka transfer solves one problem for West Ham

Of the six positions which Julen Lopetegui had targeted for improvement upon taking the top job at the London Stadium [Evening Standard, 8 May], the Irons’ transfer business so far certainly suggests that right-back was one of them.

The Hammers had, alongside Manchester United no less, pursued a deal for Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui, but that deal falling through has laid the path for Wan-Bissaka’s transfer to be completed.

Should Wan-Bissaka make the move to East London for £10m or more, that will free up enough funds for INEOS to bring Mazraoui to Old Trafford – thus solving right-back conundrums for both teams.

Manchester United may feel they’re getting an upgrade on Wan-Bissaka in the form of Mazraoui, but if Lopetegui can get the 26-year-old back to his best, he’s likely to showcase the form that saw the former pay £50m for him back in 2019.

After his understudy Ben Johnson joined Ipswich Town on a free transfer [TEAMtalk, 30 June], incumbent right-back Vladimir Coufal will have a significant step up in competition when Wan-Bissaka becomes a Hammer.
