West Ham United must target Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface as Jarrod Bowen update emerges

West Ham must turn their attention to Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface this summer as a potential replacement for Jarrod Bowen.

According to GiveMeSport [22 May], Tim Steidten “really likes” the 23-year-old striker, who has notched 21 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions this season.

It is understood that the 27-year-old is tempted by a move away, joining David Moyes after the manager’s controversial exit at the end of the season, which would leave them 20 goals short.

Although Bowen is primarily a winger, he has been utilised as a striker for the majority of the 2023/24 campaign, especially covering for Michail Antonio in the position.

Of course, with the recent news emerging that Antonio has been struggling with his mental health at the London Stadium, Julen Lopetegui could choose to find a new striker either way.

West Ham United to sign Victor Boniface to Jarrod Bowen concerns

Considering that Moyes gave the former Hull City winger an opportunity at the London Stadium, it is understandable why he would want to follow the Scot through the exit door.

However, football is a very cut-throat business. If the rumours surrounding Bowen are true, the Irons must act quickly and bring in a forward who can fire the club to glory next season.

Boniface has proven himself in the Bundesliga and the Europa League recently, having notched 21 goals and 10 assists, even despite missing 14 games through injury.

It is understood that West Ham were lining up a £50million transfer move for the Nigerian striker in January, and Bowen’s potential move to St James’ Park could certainly raise enough funds to cover that price. [Alan Nixon]

In other West Ham news, MLS and Saudi clubs want to sign this Hammers star attacker.
