Signing Giovanni Simeone makes complete sense for West Ham

West Ham United are keen to bring a forward to the London Stadium to resolve their attacking problems ahead of the 2022-23 season.

According to a report from The Times on Saturday [June 11], the Irons have been offered a chance to sign Cagliari striker Giovanni Simeone.

According to the reports, the Hammers are expected to face competition from Juventus and Arsenal for the signature of the 26-year-old.

The report stated that West Ham can get their man in a deal worth just £13million in the summer transfer window.

Versatile Striker

Simeone was one of the best players in Serie A in the recently concluded season. In 36 appearances for Hellas Verona, the 26-year-old scored 17 goals and provided six assists [TransferMarkt].

The Argentina international averaged two shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the recently concluded season.

Moreover, he had a pass completion rate of 70.4% in the 2021-22 Serie A season [WhoScored].

It shows that Simeone isn’t just someone who likes to stay in the box. He can drop back and combine with his midfielders, leaving his team’s wingers to attack the striker’s position.

West Ham

West Ham are going to be in Europe again next season as they qualified for the Europa Conference League. They cannot rely on only Michael Antonio to lead them across four domestic competitions, that too after a season where the Jamaica international suffered with injuries.

Therefore, the signing of Simeone would make sense as not only he will come at a reasonable price, can play a second-fiddle role for a while and then step up once Antonio’s time will come to an end at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, a medical has been scheduled for another player to join the Hammers in just over a week.
