Andy Irving is surely finished at West Ham as Premier League transfer race hots up

West Ham cult hero Andy Irving could be on his way out of E20 in January.

The midfielder is a popular figure among the fanbase at the London Stadium, but his time with the club could soon be drawing to a close.

West Ham received interest in Irving from Wrexham back in the summer, and while they opted to keep hold of the Scotland international on that occasion, it could be a different story this time around.

Nuno Espirito Santo desperately needs to add further quality to his squad in the upcoming transfer window, and that may well mean that the writing is on the wall for Irving.

West Ham ready for Allan transfer race

Irving’s performances for West Ham have earned him another call-up to the Scotland squad for the November internationals, but his time with the Hammers may soon be drawing to a close.

That is because David Sullivan and Co. are “probing” around the possibility of a move for Palmeiras star Allan in January, according to Spanish outlet AS.

The 21-year-old centre-midfielder has been described as a “diamond,” and appears destined to move away from his homeland for the first time this winter, with Everton and Fulham also showing a keen interest.

The Brazilian starlet looks set to be the subject of a major transfer race in the Premier League, while there are also clubs in Portugal who are keeping an eye on his progress.

Allan has been put forward as a key reason behind Palmeiras’ success in both the league and the Copa Libertadores this season, and he has already made a staggering 48 competitive appearances this term, despite his tender age.

Palmeiras hold an £88million release clause within his contract to try and deter potential European suitors, but that may not be enough to protect them this winter if the player himself chooses to push for a move.

Allan arrival would push Andy Irving out of the door

Mohamadou Kante’s progress since joining West Ham is likely to have him in first-team contention in the near future, and the arrival of another promising young midfielder would surely finish Irving off.

The former Hearts man has proven to be a simply baffling acquisition since his arrival from Austria Klagenfurt back in 2024, and he has managed just 17 competitive appearances for the Irons since then.

When he has featured, the 25-year-old has often looked a step off the pace from the level in the Premier League, and it was somewhat surprising that the East Londoners didn’t try harder to move him on in the summer.

The midfield should be a major area of concern for Nuno and Co. this winter, and it feels as though if a new arrival can be sealed before the deadline, then it would likely spell the end for Irving.
