Henri Lansbury highlights key for Nuno Espirito Santo as West Ham United expectation set
Henri Lansbury knows what it takes to get West Ham out of the Championship.
The Hammers are looking ahead to a busy campaign back in the second tier for the first time since 2012.
Things certainly didn't go right last season as Premier League relegation almost felt inevitable for the most part.
Besides from a bright spell in the second half of the year, negativity was rife at the London Stadium.
That hasn't quelled the high expectations surrounding the Irons moving into the Championship.
Nuno Espirito Santo is at the helm and knows exactly what he needs and wants to do moving forward.
Henri Lansbury highlights Nuno Espirito Santo expectation of West Ham board
Although dropping down a division is a blow to the East Londoners, they have an experienced head at the helm.
The Portuguese head coach earned promotion with Wolves back in 2018 and did it in some style.
That is an ideal example for the Irons to look at for inspiration, but Nuno needs new signings.
That hasn't been lost on Lansbury who believes new faces are needed to match the head coach's expectations in the Championship.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Lansbury said: "When he was at Forest, I thought he was brilliant. Obviously, he's shown at Wolves how good he was.
"Can he get his West Ham squad straight back up? That'll be the question that will be asked. The start of the season is key to that and he'll know that the Championship is no easy task.
"You've got to be at 100 per cent from day one. The games come thick and fast, so it will be a test for him. Himself and the board have got high expectations.
"He'll be expecting to sign new players that he wants who he sees can get the club back up. If West Ham can do a bit in the market, I think they have a great chance of getting straight back up."
Who could West Ham sign for Nuno?
There have already been plenty of names linked with the London Stadium so far this summer.
No deals have gone through, but plenty of interest has been shown in someone like Gustavo Sa, as covered by West Ham Zone.
The Portugal under-21 international would be a top addition, while Ben Nelson of Leicester City has emerged as a new target.
Arne Engels has also been linked, but would likely come at a sizable fee to get him out of Celtic.
There are plenty of names on the shortlist, but Nuno needs to get them in to have any chance of securing automatic promotion.
