Nuno Espirito Santo understands that promotion back to the Premier League won’t be straightforward at West Ham United.

The Hammers boss expects the Championship to be an even tougher league to get out of, despite his 100 per cent promotion record.

The Portuguese head coach gained promotion with Wolves in his only season in the Championship during the 2017/18 campaign, when his side finished on 99 points.

After talks with David Sullivan and Co. The 52-year-old decided to stay at the London Stadium and has sent a new rallying cry to everyone connected with the Irons.

West Ham’s goal for next season is promotion, no if’s, but’s, or maybes, and Nuno clearly knows what is needed in the Championship.

Nuno reveals key promotion fundamentals

Sullivan needs to raise around £150million in player sales, which will almost certainly see Nuno lose several of his key players this summer.

However, there is a belief in E20 that regardless of needed outgoings, the players who are set to stay, and those who will join, will be enough for promotion.

Nuno has been speaking in his first words since relegation and has opened up on what to expect next season, what he needs from West Ham fans, and what they need from the club.

Nuno said, while speaking to West Ham fans on Thursday: “It is important to have this experience before, the competition has changed, but there are things that have not. It's very demanding, the opponents are different, and the travelling is different.

“We must adapt. We need character, a lot of character, the belief, togetherness, discipline; these are the fundamental pillars. We owe them [the fans] badly, we owe them a lot, so it's up to us to give back, and we need them there in the London Stadium.”

He then went on to add how the only mission is to get back to the Premier League.

The West Ham boss seems rejuvenated just weeks after relegation, and it’s a positive sign that better days are coming in E20.

Wolves’ key Championship stats under Nuno that should give West Ham hope

Wolves enjoyed a lengthy stay in the Premier League after being guided to the promised land by Nuno eight years ago, and had their relegation confirmed this season.

The Molineux saw some of the best football it had ever seen, with players like Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, and Ivan Cavaleiro all at the top of their game under Nuno.

Arguably two of the most impressive stats that Wolves had in the Championship with Nuno was how they topped the league for goals scored per match (1.80) and also ranked at the top of the charts for Goals conceded per match (0.80)

They had a clear resilience in the fanbase and team, managing to keep 24 clean sheets across the 46 games, and in the end, finishing 11 points clear of third.

If that’s anything to go by, then West Ham are in good hands.
