West Ham Women expert delighted with Dagný Brynjarsdóttir captaincy debut

We’re delighted to welcome Michelle Irons as our exclusive West Ham Women expert. Each week she’ll be giving her views on the biggest talking points at Victoria Road…

West Ham Women expert Michelle Irons was pleased with Dagný Brynjarsdóttir’s first game as captain as the Hammers sealed an opening day victory against Everton.

Brynjarsdóttir is entering her second full season with the Hammers and was given the captaincy by Paul Konchesky over the summer.

Our West Ham Women expert has previously praised the appointment of the experienced midfielder as Hammers skipper, and Irons felt she was in control and allowed for her midfield partners to venture forward in their 1-0 win over the Toffees.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Irons said: “Everton appeared to be going through the motions and never really looked like threatening West Ham and looked short of ideas in their midfield.

“Dagny made her captaincy debut and looked in control of the midfield allowing Hayashi to burst forward on plenty of occasions.

“It’s the first time most of us Hammers fans have seen her live and she loves to get into little pockets of space and is always looking to make something happen.”

Konchesky will be delighted with his team’s start to the season after Lisa Evans’ goal on the stroke of halftime was enough to give the Hammers the three points.

Next up is a tricky test against Manchester United who are coming off of an impressive 4-0 victory over Reading in their opening fixture.
