West Ham Women expert Michelle Irons is happy with the decision to appoint Dagny Brynjarsdóttir as club captain for the 2022/23 campaign.
The club confirmed on 23 August that Brynjarsdóttir would be the captain for the upcoming season.
Brynjarsdóttir is entering her second full season with the Hammers after joining the club in January 2021, and Irons feels it’s a great appointment.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, she said: “Ahead of the new season starting this week we can now confirm that Dagny Brynjarsdóttir will be our new captain.
“For me, this is a great appointment by Paul Konchesky and the right candidate going forward.

“At the club, I would say we have a good selection of would-be captains including Grace Fisk and the ever-so-passionate Kate Longhurst but Dagny she’s a cool, calm and collected member of the team and really stakes her claim in the centre of our midfield.
“She comes as we all know with bags of experience including being the standing captain for her country Iceland.
“She is an ever-present figure who rarely has a bad game or lack of concentration.
“Once again really looking forward to seeing how she develops her game more in this new role and takes us on and hopefully, we can better our finishing position last season.”
The Hammers are coming off a 5-0 preseason defeat to Liverpool and will be looking to get their season off to a positive start when they face current Super League champions, Chelsea, on Sunday 11 September.
This season will be West Ham’s fifth in the top flight and Paul Konchesky will be looking to build on their sixth place finish from the 2021/22 season.
