West Ham will have to pay £58m to sign Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas

West Ham will reportedly have to chalk up £58million if they are to sign Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas this month.

According to Spanish media outlet AS, Arsenal have also entered the race to secure the 27-year-old Spain international’s services.

Apart from the Gunners, Leicester and Juventus are also vying for his services in the January window, although the Old Lady are only open to a loan while Espanyol want a permanent transfer.

Stay away

There’s no chance that the Hammers can shell out that kind of money for one player so this is unlikely to happen.

Even if they could, signing someone who’s 27 and with no Premier League experience, will always pose a big risk.

The Hammers need someone to replace Michail Antonio, who’s their first choice number nine.

The Jamaica international is injury prone and 31 and it’s important to find a long-term replacement for him.

De Tomas is just four years younger and in a couple of seasons, West Ham will need to replace him again.

He has scored against the likes of Real Madrid this season and has also been described as “phenomenal” recently.

They must sign players like Adam Hlozek who’s currently 19 and has his entire career ahead of him.

He would also be open to the idea of playing one season as second-choice before becoming the club’s go-to attacker.
