West Ham unlikely to complete January move for Duje Caleta-Car

West Ham are not expected to sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car in the January transfer window, according to Jack Rosser.

The Evening Standard journalist claims that the Hammers have tracked the Croatia international for a while, but may not be able to get the deal done this month.

David Moyes is believed to be keen on signing a centre-back this month with Angelo Ogbonna ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

Make a bid

According to Sky Sports, the 25-year-old is valued at £17million by the Ligue 1 outfit.

It’s also reported that the Hammers are plotting a loan-to-buy swoop and it remains to be seen what Marseille’s stance on the player is.

If they’re willing to sanction a loan exit, then it plays perfectly into West Ham’s hands.

They can even include an option to buy in the deal as the Hammers will certainly need to sign someone permanently in the summer as well.

These five months will give them a good indication as to what sort of player he is and whether or not he fits into the Premier League.

Oftentimes, players coming from foreign leagues struggle to make an impact in the English top flight and it remains to be seen how he fares should West Ham manage to get this one over the line.
