West Ham United transfer news as fee emerges for Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe
West Ham are keen on securing the services of Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe in the January transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.
The news outlet reported on their Twitter account on Thursday (5 October) that the Gunners will demand £60million in exchange for the 23-year-old’s services.
Smith-Rowe, who won the UEFA U-21 Euro this summer, has had a tough time with injuries and even when fit, has struggled to get minutes under Mikel Arteta.
Quality but not worth it
Smith-Rowe’s potential move to West Ham could see the midfielder thrive under the tactical guidance of David Moyes.
The Scotsman’s style of play, characterised by disciplined defending, quick transitions and a focus on teamwork aligns well with the Arsenal midfielder’s attributes.
The 23-year-old’s exceptional ball control, quick decision-making, and ability to operate in tight spaces make him a valuable asset for Moyes’ counter-attacking strategy.

His versatility to play across the midfield and advanced positions adds depth to the squad, allowing Moyes to adapt formations as needed – something that Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen offer as well.
Under Moyes’ tutelage, Smith-Rowe could further develop his defensive work rate, which is a hallmark of Moyes’ teams.
However, given his injury record and the asking fee, it’s unlikely that the Hammers will consider spending that kind of money when signing a new striker is the priority.
