West Ham United source shares new Ruben Amorim verdict after manager talks

A source close to West Ham has said that their approach to bring Ruben Amorim to the club was “overly ambitious”, according to iNews.

The news outlet reported that the only result of West Ham holding talks with Amorim was a public apology from the Sporting Lisbon manager, implying that him being appointed at the London Stadium was always a long shot.

West Ham are yet to confirm if and when David Moyes will leave the club this summer, but their pursuit of high-profile figures such as Amorim indicates they have set a high bar for the Scotsman’s replacement.

West Ham aiming high in search for David Moyes’ successor

West Ham will likely not be hiring Amorim after last week’s talks, but that’s not stopping the club’s hierarchy from speaking to other high-profile targets for their inevitable upcoming managerial vacancy.

The Irons are tussling with AC Milan to secure the signature of former Spain and Wolves boss Julian Lopetegui, while Lille’s Paulo Fonseca has also been linked as a potential successor to Moyes.

They’re far from the only club on the hunt for a new manager this summer, with Amorim also a target of Liverpool in recent weeks following the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

Ruben Amorim
It doesn’t look like Ruben Amorim will be David Moyes’ successor at West Ham United.

West Ham are going continental in their search for a new figure in the dugout, but as things stand on the pitch, the club look set to miss out on a place in Europe for the first time in four seasons.

If they’re to qualify for UEFA competitions again next season, the Irons have just three games left to overturn a five-point deficit between themselves and sixth-placed Manchester United.

If Moyes can bridge that gap before the end of the campaign, he’ll be vacating the managerial hot-seat with the club firmly on an upward trajectory.

In other news, the Hammers could sign another “exciting” young attacker and immediately loan him out.
