West Ham United scout EFL trio Rob Dickie, Dael Fry and Lloyd Kelly this season

West Ham United have been thoroughly scouting through the Championship this season once again, this time for new defenders.

90min have reported that QPR skipper Rob Dickie, Bournemouth mainstay Lloyd Kelly and Middlesbrough star Dael Fry have all been watched.

The Irons are said to be looking for a new defender after the injury to Angelo Ogbonna ruled him out for the entire season.

Writing for 90min this week (2nd December), Toby Cudworth shared the latest with January less than a month away.

“David Moyes’ scouting team are also taking a look at some of the Championship’s hottest properties,” he said.

“The Hammers have bought well from the division over the past couple of years – namely bringing in Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma – and Rob Dickie, Dael Fry and Lloyd Kelly are among those who have been watched.”

Needed?

With the Europa League set to go into overdrive in 2022 alongside cup commitments and the Premier League, squad depth is critical.

Issa Diop is our current rotation option for Craig Dawson and Kurt Zouma, so another younger head could be perfect.

Dawson has been superb since signing from Watford, but his longevity alongside Ogbonna’s too is questionable.

Bringing in someone such as Dickie could be the smartest option given that he has been catapulted into their captaincy role since moving from Oxford.

Given the huge money spent on Zouma, a cheaper deal from the Championship would make sense and hopefully, we can bring in another bargain just as we did with Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma.
