West Ham United: David Moyes announcement needed in days at the London Stadium

West Ham United must give their fans some clarity on the future of manager David Moyes in the wake of their 5-2 loss to Crystal Palace, according to Roshane Thomas.

The Athletic journalist said that West Ham making a decision and an announcement on Moyes’ future is the “most logical step” the club could take, and will calm some of the vitriol towards the Scot after his side were played off Selhurst Park.

West Ham were 4-0 down inside 3-1 minutes as Palace put them to the sword, and Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the Eagles’ fifth midway through the second period, with the visitors fortunate to pull a goal back at the back end of both halves.

This morning (22 April), Thomas wrote in the Athletic: “It feels like the end of an era for Moyes and this ageing team, but he is deserving of a better send-off than the anger and frustration he has been subjected to. An announcement about his future before the end of the season should be the most logical step in the days ahead.”

West Ham board must make decision on David Moyes soon

West Ham were well off the pace at Selhurst Park and had already shipped three goals before the half-hour mark, only for Jean-Philippe Mateta to add a fourth for Palace barely 60 seconds later.

Following on from an inspired performance against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League just three days earlier, forcing the unbeaten German champions into a last-gasp equaliser, it was a sorry showing which highlights just how inconsistent West Ham have become.

West Ham manager David Moyes
David Moyes will manage West Ham United for the final time against Manchester City on May 19.

Moyes’ side have just one win in their last seven games acrosss all competitions, and with only four matches left (less than most of the teams around them) in the Premier League, reaching Europe for a fourth successive season looks to be a long shot for the Hammers.

They remain eighth in the table, albeit now with a poor goal difference of -9, and with the sides around them all in better form, an anxious end to the season awaits for West Ham fans.

That anxiety could be abated somewhat if the club’s board announce a decision on Moyes’ future in the coming days, but an announcement of that magnitude seems a long way off right now.
