West Ham United confirm five-strong backroom team after Julen Lopetegui announcement
Julen Lopetegui has appointed five coaches to his backroom team following his official appointment as West Ham United’s new head coach today (23 May).
West Ham confirmed on their club website that Spaniards Pablo Sanz, Oscar Caro, Juan Vicente Peinado, Borja De Alba and Edu Rubio will join Lopetegui in the London Stadium dugout this season.
Each of the five has previously worked with Lopetegui during his spells at Porto, Spain, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Wolves respectively, and will help to implement his methods and tactics over the upcoming pre-season.
The Irons announced the long-awaited confirmation that Lopetegui would take over from David Moyes as their new head coach on 23 May, allowing the Scot to see out the end of the current campaign.
Pre-season overhaul starts now for West Ham United
West Ham finally have their new head coach through the door with five experienced coaches in tow, and that means next season’s preparations will now truly kick into gear.
The Hammers have a potentially pivotal few weeks ahead that could determine the trajectory taken at the London Stadium over the next 12 months and beyond, making Lopetegui’s first transfer window in charge all the more important.

With a whole host of players coming to the end of their contracts, including veterans like Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio, the Irons are likely to be very active in the market to purchase replacements.
Sales are also expected for high-value players like Lucas Paqueta, and Mohammed Kudus is likely to attract many suitors after a breakout season in the Premier League.
If replacements and further additions can be found in the wide variety of positions West Ham need to strengthen in, Lopetegui and his five-strong backroom team will be hopeful of getting any new arrivals acclimatised to life in East London as quickly as possible.
