West Ham United: Chris Sutton fumes in ‘shameful’ David Moyes rant after what fans did

Chris Sutton has slammed West Ham supporters for holding up a banner reading “Moyes Out” during the 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The fans were pictures with the banner in the away end, and Sutton has described their actions as “ridiculous” and “shameful” in defence of the under-pressure boss.

He also suggested that, even if the club win against Brentford on 26 February, David Moyes will likely leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off [22 February], Sutton ranted: “I don’t think it matters any more [a win v Brentford]. I’ve made my feelings pretty clear about David Moyes.

“I don’t think he deserves the feeling that there is at West Ham at this moment in time and the negativity towards him.

“I saw there was a banner, ‘Moyes Out’ at the weekend. I think it’s ridiculous and it’s pretty shameful. The job he’s done, he doesn’t deserve any of that. I don’t think a win is going to change things dramatically.

“I suspect, at the end of the season, David Moyes and the club will shake hands and they’ll agree to go their separate ways.”

Will David Moyes be sacked by West Ham?

Moyes’ future is still undecided at the London Stadium, but in the face of constant pressure first from the fans and now the board, it looks unlikely that his long-term future will be at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are without a win in 2024 and have conceded 11 goals in their last three games, scoring none, leading to the board delaying contract talks with the manager.

Frustrations surrounding the style of play are what saw plenty of fans kick off with the boss before this run of form, although many pundits questioned those frustrations due to the club’s strong league position.

West Ham United fans held up a ‘Moyes Out’ banner amid rising pressure on David Moyes.

It has even been reported that some players in the dressing room at the London Stadium are unhappy with the tactical style under Moyes, adding further pressure to his job.

Sutton’s relentless backing of the manager, and refusal to entertain any alternative suggestions from the fans about their reasons for being frustrated, is unlikely to change regardless of what happens.

In other West Ham news, Thomas Tuchel could be set to replace Moyes.
