West Ham United: Alan Shearer slammed after what he said about David Moyes on Match of the Day

Tom Rennie has slammed Alan Shearer for his comments on David Moyes following the West Ham defeat against Fulham on Sunday (14 April).

Speaking on Match of the Day 2 on Sunday, Shearer said the Hammers need to be “careful what you wish for” when discussing the Scotsman’s future, with Rennie tweeting on Monday (15 April) that a statement of that nature shows “you don’t know anything”.

The talkSPORT broadcaster added that it’s best to not even ask the pundit for his opinion if he has “nothing of note to say”, with Moyes’s future once again coming under the microscope following the 2-0 loss against the Cottagers at the London Stadium.

“If Alan Shearer has nothing of note to say about West Ham on MOTD just don’t ask him,” said Rennie. “Rolling out a ‘careful what you wish for’ is an admission you don’t know anything. And that’s fine. Best to say nothing.”

Should David Moyes remain at West Ham next season?

It’s an extremely difficult topic to provide a clear answer on whether or not Moyes should remain at West Ham beyond this season.

There is no doubt that he has done an excellent job during his time at the club, but some of the results – and performances – have fallen well below expectations during this campaign.

But the fact of the matter is, we are currently still eighth in the Premier League and are in the quarter-finals of the Europa League after losing our captain last summer.

Most people would have probably taken this position after Declan Rice left for Arsenal, but it’s the manner of some of the defeats that has left the fans frustrated.

It’s hard to say whether or not the Scotsman will still be at the London Stadium beyond the next couple of months, but it does feel as though he has to at least secure European football again.
