Alan Shearer has warned West Ham fans to be careful what they wish for regarding the future of manager David Moyes.

The Scotsman has yet to decide whether he will sign the new contract awarded to him, with his current deal set to expire in the summer.

Moyes' future has been a hot topic of debate for a while, with many United fans hoping to see a change in the dugout ahead of next season.

However, discussing the subject on BBC's Match of the Day 2 [14 April, 51m 06s], Shearer said: "I look at West Ham, in eighth position and two points off sixth, and it's a case of be careful what you wish for.

"Their recruitment has been very good. In terms of where they should be, other than Aston Villa, I think they're probably top of their league in terms of how high they can go."

Will David Moyes stay on as West Ham manager?

Quite frankly, nobody knows. All we know at this stage is that Moyes was offered a deal around the turn of the year, but no official decision has been made.

There have been hints that the Scotsman will stay on beyond this season, but others have suggested that will not be the case.

Ultimately, the mood is determined by results. After thrashing Freiburg last month, everything was looking rosy again for the Irons.

However, 2-0 losses to Bayer Leverkusen and Fulham over the past week have changed all that.

There is no doubt that Moyes has done a very good job at London Stadium. And those who are calling for Moyes to leave are fully aware of the risks.

At the same time, this could be the perfect chance to bring in some fresh blood in the hope of the Hammers taking the next step.

One way or another, brace yourself for the 'told-you-so' merchants to come out in force next season, depending on how things pan out.
