West Ham target Joe Gomez could force Liverpool exit to boost England chances

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez could be on his way out this summer with West Ham reportedly keen on securing his services.

According to 90Min journalist Graeme Bailey, the 24-year-old is struggling for game time at Anfield and that has damaged his chances of making Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

He claims that West Ham are among of host of clubs open to signing him, including Everton, Tottenham, Newcastle and Fulham.

He told Anfield Watch, “Liverpool and Klopp have a huge decision to make, and there are no shortage of clubs looking to land the 24-year-old. I am told Tottenham, Newcastle, West Ham, soon to be promoted Fulham, and Stanley Park neighbours Everton would all happily take Gomez.

“The issue for Gomez is that he is contracted to Liverpool until 2024, so the club don’t have to sell him – but will Klopp let him leave? That is the major question for the Anfield boss.

“They might be thinking Gomez is needed to replace Joel Matip at some point, but he is only 30 and has been brilliant this season – so that would very much be in the long-term, and as mentioned, Gomez is thinking about his short-term future.”

Worth it

Gomez is the perfect long-term partner for Kurt Zouma.

Much like the Frenchman, he’s got the experience at a big Premier League that challenges for continental honours every season.

He would walk into the club with that winner’s mentality and it would rub off on the rest of the players as well.

Not only is he solid as a centre-back, but he’s a good passer of the ball and can play as a right-back as well.

David Moyes will certainly like having a player like him on board and must do everything he can to secure his services.

In other West Ham news, the club want to sign a ‘Brilliant’ Chelsea player who will tick a major box for David Moyes in the summer.
