West Ham receive positive transfer update in pursuit of striker

West Ham United have received a much-needed boost in their transfer plans as insider Dean Jones believes they could make a move for a French attacker.

Ludovic Ajorque is the man in question and the six-foot six-inch striker has been in fine form for Ligue 1 side Strasbourg this season which has seen him linked with a move to the London Stadium [Foot Mercato]

10 goals in 20 games has helped “Le Racing” into sitting fourth in the league, ahead of the likes of AS Monaco, Lyon and reigning champions Lille.

“On the back of French football struggling through the pandemic last year, there’s a feeling that you can get players out of clubs that usually might not be able to go yet,” Jones said when speaking to Give Me Sport.

“So it will still be a struggle to sign him because a team like that aren’t going to want to lose their star player but there is some optimism.”

The perfect alternative

Ajorque is exactly the kind of striker David Moyes should be pursuing and these are encouraging comments for Hammers fans.

While Michail Antonio will offer plenty of energy and pace, coupled with the ability to beat a man at ease, Ajorque can be more of a target and allow runners off his hold up play.

Along with his 10 Ligue 1 goals, he also has seven assists to his name with Habib Diallo, Kevin Gameiro and Adrein Thomasson all chipping in with goals themselves.

The form Antonio has been in this season suggests he shouldn’t be dropped in favour of Ajorque but he does need another striker to help ease his own workload a bit.

And Ajorque, in a way, is the perfect subsitute because he will be very effective in both penalty areas, depending if they need to chase a goal or protect theirs.
