West Ham not close to signing New York City striker Valentín Castellanos

West Ham United are not close to signing New York City FC striker Valentín Castellanos according to MLS insider Tom Bogert.

It had been reported by the Daily Mirror on Wednesday [25 May] that the Hammers were in pole position to sign the 23-year-old Argentinian striker.

However, according to Bogert, those reports are slightly wide of the mark.

The MLS insider tweeted on Wednesday [25 May]: “NYCFC are yet to receive a bid matching their valuation for Taty Castellanos, I’m told.

“Reports suggesting he’s close to a move to West Ham in a $16million deal are not accurate, as no bid has come in for $16million”

He added: “Doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t happen, but nothing being finalized yet.”

Striker hunt gone cold

It doesn’t seem like West Ham’s interest in Castellanos has faded and it wouldn’t be a surprise if a bid does come in for the 23-year-old striker.

After reliable journalist David Ornstein revealed on Wednesday [25 May] that long-term target Eddy Nketiah is due to stay at Arsenal, it wouldn’t be a shock to see David Moyes make a move in the striker department soon.

Castellanos is at an age where he can certainly develop further and a move to the Premier League, at this time in his career, would be a good move.

West Ham

Considering his relatively small release clause of £12million, the 23-year-old is a player that Moyes should be paying close attention to.

The Hammers have been linked to a number of players in what is expected to be an extremely busy summer at the London Stadium.

Adding some depth and quality to this tiny squad is a must if the Hammers want to stay competing at the right end of the Premier League.
