West Ham look to land ‘marquee’ signing Nayef Aguerd this week

West Ham are all set to sign land Morocco inernational Nayef Aguerd this week, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Hammers have been heavily linked with a move for the highly-rated central defender, and he is now all set to join, although a move in the next 24 hours is unlikely.

The report suggests that the 26-year-old Rennes centre-back will be a “marquee” signing for the club.

There is confusion over the transfer fee among various news outlets. The report adds that the fee is closer to £30 million (€35 million).

What next?

This is going to be a massive transfer window for the Hammers, and Aguerd could be the first of many to arrive this summer.

Signing a quality central defender was necessary, and the owners backed David Moyes in the market to land a top player of his choice.

Moyes does have Kurt Zouma, Angelo Ogbonna, Craig Dawson and Issa Diop at his disposal, and yet last season, the defence did struggle at times.

Ogbonna will be there for one more season, but Aguerd’s potential arrival could pave the way for Diop’s departure.

The Hammers also need to sign a quality striker in the summer. It will be interesting to see if Moyes opts to get another marquee player in that department having failed to land a striker in the previous transfer windows.

The club also need to add another central midfielder after Mark Noble has retired while bolstering the attacking midfielder could be a priority as well.

In other West Ham news, ExWHUemployee claims that the Hammers are confident of beating Manchester City to sign an attacking sensation this summer.
