West Ham final league position predicted by supercomputer after Man City loss

West Ham United are predicted to finish 14th in the Premier League despite their 4-1 loss to Manchester City, according to Opta Analyst.

The Irons failed to improve against Pep Guardiola’s side, who brushed off West Ham in a 4-1 victory on Saturday (4 January) which appeared to be the final straw for Lopetegui.

The Irons reportedly made the decision to sack the Spaniard on Monday (6 January) [talkSPORT] and it’s hard to say it hasn’t been coming.

As it stands, the Hammers have a 0.03 chance of achieving Champions League qualification while having a 0.82 per cent of succumbing to relegation.

However, those chances could change drastically if the rumours of Graham Potter’s pending appointment are to be believed [Sean Whetstone].

West Ham United set for mid-table mediocrity

Given the fact that the Hammers qualified for Europe not too long ago, and indeed won the Europa Conference League, it’s deeply concerning to see how much the club has regressed under the stewardship of Lopetegui.

With the players he had at his disposal, a 14th-placed finish would not have been welcomed at the London Stadium and the Irons should be a side capable of competing for a top-eight finish at the very least. With the recent sacking, they still can.

However, they need to act quickly to find Lopetegui’s successor for them to have a true impact on the remainder of the season.

Progression has been non-existent ever since Lopetegui’s appointment and it’s beyond mind-blowing to have seen him last this long in the job.

The coming days will provide a clear indication as to how the Irons are going to address the current situation, with an update surely imminent on the next man to lead West Ham forward.
