West Ham could bid for Rob Dickie in January – report
West Ham could make a bid for Queens Park Rangers defender Rob Dickie in the January transfer window, according to reports from The Mirror.
Premier League rivals Newcastle United are reportedly leading the chase, but the Hammers and Southampton can also make a bid for the defender.
QPR are apparently adamant that they won’t sell Dickie in January as they chase for promotion this season.
The Mirror (printed edition 03 January, page 46) add that Dickie has three years left on his current deal, and he is available for a measly fee of just £5million.
Should Hammers make a move?
It is an open secret that the Hammers are looking to sign a defender this month.
Following the injuries to Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma, the Hammers are lacking in depth in that region, and adding another player is necessary.
Craig Dawson has been superb for the Hammers, but his longevity is questionable. Issa Diop has featured in recent games, but he struggles for consistency.
The 25-year-old has made 24 Championship appearances this season, scoring two goals.
The towering centre-back has been in fantastic form for QPR and has the necessary attributes that David Moyes wants in a centre-back.
He is a strong defender with an old-school style attitude – he is good at tackling, strong in the air, and comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Dickie reads the game very well and he is good at making interceptions, and he is available at a bargain price and could be a solid addition for the Hammers.
