West Ham boss David Moyes reveals contract extension for Antonio with more expected

David Moyes has confirmed that West Ham are going about their business ‘quietly’ with more contract announcements expected.

Michail Antonio has been one of their standout players this season with 15 goal involvements in all competitions this season and has been rewarded with a 12-month extension

Moyes admitted that the Hammers are looking to conduct their business more privately going forward with another couple of players already putting pen to paper on new deals.

We’ve actually extended one or two contracts behind-the-scenes,” Moyes said in West Ham’s pre Leeds press conference

“We did Michail’s contract about two months ago, but we’ve also done another couple of players’.

“We’ve gone about our business quietly, doing some things behind-the-scenes and trying to do things correctly.

“We’ve got a few more players who have signed contracts as well. We’ve got a few. I’m sure the club will announce it at the right time.

“We’re changing. We’re trying not to do our business in public. We’re trying to do our business in the correct fashion if we can and we’re getting round one or two players at different times and renewing their contracts. We’re pleased to have Michy’s done. I’m sure the Club will do something on it.”

About time

It’s great news that West Ham are now looking to do their business in private. For far too long have the Hammers aired their dirty laundry in public which has been embarrassing for the club.

Doing their business behind closed doors rules out the chance of any speculation in the media which allows the players and David Moyes to concentrate on their main job, the football on the pitch.

The Hammers tying down their standout performers can only be a good thing for the club. It means the players can settle at the club and if anyone does come in for them, we can charge what we want.

With Antonio well into the latter stages of his career, a 12 month extension was the perfect way to go. Hopefully everyone else’s contracts are as carefully considered to avoid any financial mishaps with players being paid wages that doesn’t replicate their worth.

Hopefully one of the other contracts Moyes spoke about has Declan Rice’s name on it. That’s the contract announcement the Hammers are looking for and it could well be with the Irons new stance on behind-the-scenes business.

In other Hammers news, Antonio wants striker to rival his position at West Ham.
