View: Nathan Ake would be cracking signing for West Ham

West Ham have been linked with a move for Manchester City defender Nathan Ake in the January transfer window, and he would be a cracking signing for the club.

The Hammers are eyeing a loan move with an obligation to buy the quality centre-back, according to 90min.

Signing a central defender is key following the injury to Angelo Obgonna. It has been claimed that City are not particularly keen to lose him to West Ham, but a better-incentivised offer can seal the deal.

West Ham

Experience

The Dutch defender is a top-class player. He showed his talent while playing for Chelsea. He was outstanding for Bournemouth, and he has done well for Manchester City.

Ake has got a wealth of Premier League experience and that is why he is perfect to replace Ogbonna, not only for this season but in the long run as well.

Age and price

At 26, Ake is approaching the prime phase of his career, and it is the right time for West Ham to invest big in him.

He joined City for a fee of £41 million, but surely West Ham can get him at a reduced price. With a new shareholder in place, funds will be available if the player is right.

Versatility

Strong in the air, good with passing, and exceptional in reading the game – Ake has proved his quality in the league.

Most importantly, he is versatile. At City, he often played as a left-back, drawing rich praise from Pep Guardiola who hailed him as “intelligent”.

It won’t be easy to prise him away, but his addition will add tremendous depth and quality to the side in January.
