Tony Cottee shares brilliant reaction after West Ham United bow out of Europa League
Tony Cottee has shared his reaction on Twitter after West Ham suffered defeat against Frankfurt in the Europa League.
It’s been a remarkable European journey from the Hammers, but it ended in a heart-break after they lost 1-0 in Germany on Thursday (05 May) and 3-1 on aggregate.
Rafael Borre scored the only goal of the match that saw defender Aaron Cresswell and manager David Moyes both being sent off.
Cottee wrote on Twitter: “That’s the end of our European tour but what a journey we have been on. Proud of this team and everyone involved with West Ham.
“I have made some unbelievable memories especially on the away days and I’m hoping this team can build from this to continue challenging in Europe.”
Remarkable journey
Cottee is absolutely spot on here. It’s really been a remarkable journey from the Hammers in the Europa League this season.
They have beaten the likes of Sevilla and Lyon to reach this far, and probably should have done a lot better in the semi-final.
Cresswell is an experienced defender but he made a poor decision and his sending off was the biggest turning point of the match.
After going 1-0 down, it was simply a mountain to climb for the Hammers, but the players gave everything on the pitch.

It’s been a learning curve for the players and they will be hungry to do well in European competitions once again.
However, the season is not over yet. The Hammers will have to make sure they secure a place for Europa League next season and for that they must end the season strongly.
They have been really poor in the league recently, and they must pick themselves up and return to winning ways quickly.
In other West Ham news, a BBC pundit has urged West Ham to sign a £40million rated Chelsea wantaway, saying he would be a “great fit”.
