Stan Collymore in X-rated rant after controversial incident in West Ham United v Aston Villa
Stan Collymore has been involved in an X-rated rant after Tomas Soucek was denied a last-minute winner for West Ham against Aston Villa on Sunday (17 March).
The pundit tweeted on Sunday his bemusement at it taking so long for the officials to decide the ball had hit the Czech Republic international’s arm before it bounced into the net.
Following a lengthy VAR check, he added that it was “visible in the first video run *expletive*”, with the 29-year-old midfielder’s effort eventually being ruled out in the 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.
Why does it take so long to see Soucek took his arm to the ball which guided it towards goal?” asked Collymore. “That was visible in the first video run *expletive*!!”
VAR not covering itself in glory in West Ham against Aston Villa
There is no real reason why it took so long for the officials to eventually rule out the goal for a handball by Soucek on the line.
Let’s be honest, if that had been a Villa player, then we would almost certainly have wanted the decision to be given in our favour.
The rules are quite clear that, if the ball goes in as a direct consequence of it hitting a player’s arm, then it is a handball and that’s what happened in this situation.

There are doubts about whether the right decision was made to rule out Michail Antonio’s second-half strike for handball, though, as it appeared to come off his hip.
But the draw against a side going for the Champions League this season certainly wasn’t a bad result by any means and we can look to build on that after the international break.
