‘Ruined’ – Journalist shares verdict on potential Declan Rice exit from West Ham
Declan Rice would be ‘ruined’ if he left West Ham to join Manchester United, according to 90min journalist Toby Cudworth.
The Hammers vice-captain has been linked with a £100m move away from the London Stadium this summer, with the Reds one of the sides expected to be interested in a deal [Telegraph].
But according to Cudworth, Rice would not only go backwards but would actually ruin his career if he chose to make a move to Old Trafford in their current state.
Writing on his personal Twitter account Cudworth said, “I admit it, I got it wrong. Declan Rice would go backwards be ruined if he left West Ham to join Manchester United.”
Rice is also reportedly on the shortlist for Chelsea and Manchester City, but West Ham have no intention of selling him. He has two years remaining on his contract plus the club have the option of an extra year too.
Catalyst
Manchester United have a lot of problems in their team right now but one of the main ones is a lack of a defensive minded midfielder with quality.
Rice would certainly provide that, and the club are in a better position to provide regular European football in the Champions League than West Ham are.

But in the state that the club are currently in, it could prove detrimental for his personal career to go to a club that are struggling for any sort of stability right now.
Conversely though, Rice could see this as a chance to be the catalyst for that change and cement himself as one of the best players in the world in his position.
It’s a bold statement to make from a journalist, who admittedly is a Hammer, but it’s hard to decisively say that he would be wrong on this occasion.
