Pundit demands West Ham United push for top 4 place, slaughters Manchester United
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie believes West Ham must be aiming for a top 4 finish this season, and believes they should pip Manchester United to the position.
The Hammers were in the race until late on in the season last year before prioritising the Europa League, where they reached the semi-finals, and eventually finishing in 7th place in the Premier League.
But with Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola, Flynn Downes and more expected to join the club this summer, McAvennie feels that aiming for anything but top 4 would make the fans unhappy.

“Youve got the top boys there, and fair play to Tottenham, because Daniel Levy wouldn’t put his hand in his pocket for anything,” he told West Ham Zone.
“But the top four, Man United are still going backwards I don’t care what anyone says. They’ve not got anyone that’s going to make any difference.
“So I would just say, you’ve got to go for top six. The fans will not be happy if they’re not challenging for a European place. That’s what was promised every year, and to be fair in the last couple of years that’s happened.
“But they don’t want to go out of that now. So you’ve got to go for top four and if you get top six or seven then you’re still in a European place and fine. But that’s what they’ve got to challenge for.
“I think if they replaced certain players last year, they’ve have got that. Tottenham came from the back. We were fighting Man United for a place then Tottenham came and stole it. Fair play to them. That’s what a good manager does.”
