Paul Mitchell favourite to be named West Ham United director of football – ExWHUemployee
West Ham want to appoint Paul Mitchell as their new director of football and he is the favourite for the job, according to ExWHUemployee.
The Hammers are keen to appoint a new member of staff behind the scenes to help with their transfer business after being disappointed by their results this season despite spending £185m on deals in the summer and January.
The likes of Tiago Pinto and Lee Dykes had been named as candidates for the role, but speaking on his podcast on Patreon (5 June), Ex claimed that the former Monaco man is the favourite for the job.

“They’re looking for a director of football,” he said. “At the moment the favourite appears to be Paul Mitchell who is a friend of Mark Noble’s and was the sporting director at Monaco, where Mark Noble spent some time with him.
“They’re good mates. Interestingly at Monaco where he was most recently employed they have a lot of players like Breel Embolo, the Swiss forward, and Axel Disasi, a centre-back who we’ve been massively linked with recently.
“He’s not a confirmed appointment but he’s certainly one of the people that we’ve been talking to.”
Smart
Mark Noble’s role at the club is an interesting one, and was created especially for him to help link the club throughout the age groups.
But while he was also involved in the transfer process, it’s something he has never done before and will surely need help with.
David Moyes has been the man leading the way in the transfer market in recent years alongside his head of recruitment Rob Newman, but a change of structure means getting someone in who can mesh well with the already existing parts is important.

Mitchell will have a good idea of the club since he is English and he has a good relationship with Noble already, making any transition to east London easy to do.
It’s a smart decision to bring him in if it ends up happening and could even potentially help West Ham in the moves for the Monaco players that Ex mentioned too.
