Lee Dykes and Tiago Pinto on West Ham United shortlist for director of football role

West Ham have shortlisted Brentford’s Lee Dykes and Roma’s Tiago Pinto for the new director of football role they want to introduce, according to The Telegraph.

The Hammers have been unhappy at how they have spent £185m since last summer with eight players joining last year before Danny Ings made it nine new stars.

But after spending the majority of the season battling against relegation, the board now want to bring in someone else to deal with transfers and have drawn up a shortlist.

Former Liverpool man Michael Edwards and ex-Leeds supremo Victor Orta have been mentioned (Guardian, 15 May) as potential candidates, but a new report has named Dykes and Pinto as currently employed people who are on the list.

Sensible

The players that West Ham brought into the club during the summer window were hugely exciting and many people felt as though there were big improvements made.

But David Moyes really struggled to get the best out of the new players and get them to play the way he wanted and he totally flopped for the most part this year, although safety is now all but secured.

A lot of the players have failed to live up to the expectation this season and after such a poor season domestically, there is now a change of tact for the club to get back on track.

Dykes has been phenomenal for Brentford with his recruitment with the likes of Ivan Toney, Christian Eriksen and more coming in while Roma have been able to get back into the conversation at the top of Italy with Pinto.

This summer is absolutely huge for the club and this is a good start to getting things right.
