Paul Merson makes ‘Shocked’ West Ham United prediction v Newcastle

Paul Merson has predicted that Newcastle will beat West Ham United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Monday.

Previewing games for Sportskeeda [21 November], Merson backed the home side to win 3-0 on 25 November, saying he’d be “shocked” if the Irons even got a point.

Julen Lopetegui is under pressure at the London Stadium, with latest updates suggesting he may only have two games to save his job [The Guardian].

He said: “I’d be shocked if West Ham get anything out of this game.

“It has Newcastle written all over it. I’m backing the hosts to slaughter West Ham and become a strong candidate in the race for the top four. Newcastle United 3-0 West Ham United.”

West Ham United shock at Newcastle on cards?

The Hammers find themselves sitting fourteenth in the Premier League, with only five points separating them from the relegation zone, and there have been shouts for Lopetegui to be sacked.

While David Sullivan has continued to back the Spanish tactician [Simon Stone via BBC], time is quickly running out for him to turn things around.

As Merson said, the East London outfit would be “delusional” to expect positive results in games against the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle on current form, with those teams vying for at least a top-four finish.

Therefore, it would be more realistic to expect a win against Leicester, who, like West Ham, are trying to steer clear from the drop zone.

The Premier League strugglers have matches against Wolves and Southampton coming up in December and wins against them would help them climb up the ladder.

However, it remains to be seen if Lopetegui will be at the helm by then with drastic changes possibly on the way.
