Nayef Aguerd is scheduled for West Ham United medical in the next 24 hours
Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd is scheduled for a West Ham medical on Thursday [16 June], unless there’s a further twist in the tale, as reported by ExWHUEmployee.
Newcastle United appeared to have made a late attempt to hijack the deal after it was reported that the centre-back has flown to London for his medical [Claret and Hugh, 15 June].
As of now, it’s unclear what will happen next, but going by the plans, the player should undergo his medical with the Hammers on Thursday.
Ex wrote on Twitter: “He is still scheduled to do the medical tomorrow.”
Another twist?
West Ham must get this deal done. It could be a huge blow for David Moyes to miss out on him after tracking him for so long.
It’s quite common in the transfer market that clubs try to hijack a deal, where usually the player’s agents are more involved.
Usually, the agents keep all options open where they try to get better deals towards the end.
The Hammers are already paying a lot of money for Aguerd, and it seems the player has been properly pitched by the Hammers.
Unless Newcastle come up with a very good offer that he can’t refuse, which is of course a possibility considering their financial power these days, it doesn’t look like he will have a big change of heart.
What has been really frustrating is that West Ham could actually miss out on signing him.
Rennes could also be looking to drive up his price and get the best deal out of him. It will be an interesting next few days in the life of Aguerd.
