Maxwel Cornet ruled out until 2023 for West Ham United after another injury setback
Maxwel Cornet has been ruled out of action for West Ham until 2023 after suffering a fresh setback with his calf injury, says first-team coach Billie McKinlay.
The Ivory Coast international signed for the club in the summer transfer window from relegated Burnley but has suffered with injuries ever since, only managing to make a total of seven appearances.
But while it was believed initially that Cornet would return from his most recent problem once the Premier League season resumed, but speaking after the friendly with Fulham it’s now believed he will miss the games against Arsenal and Brentford too.

“He won’t be fit for the next couple of games, I wouldn’t think, but hopefully he won’t be too far away,” McKinlay said, via Claret & Hugh.
Cornet suffered the injury playing against Wolves back in October and has been out of action ever since being hauled off after just 35 minutes when he couldn’t continue.
Blow
This winter break was supposed to be a chance for West Ham to get their squad strong and fit again after a shocking start has seen them sit just one point off the relegation zone currently.
But now Cornet is out for the next few games at least, while Nayef Aguerd could be hurt still too following his participation at the World Cup where he helped Morocco to a fourth-placed finish.

Having missed almost the entire first half of the season with an injury picked up during pre-season friendlies, Aguerd’s return would be a huge boost but in attack Cornet’s directness and goal threat would be massive.
With Lucas Paqueta potentially taking up a newer role deeper in midfield, that opens up a spot in attack alongside Gianluca Scamacca, Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, Said Benrahma and co to rotate amongst and be the ones to push West Ham up the table.
But with no Cornet, this gamble of a signing is now looking worse and worse with more games missed and the medical staff are earning their cash at this time of year.
