Luca Pellegrini turned West Ham down to fight for Juventus place
Juventus defender Luca Pellegrini turned down an approach from West Ham as he wanted to fight for a first-team berth at the Old Lady, per Il Bianconero.
According to Goal Italia journalist Romeo Agresti, the Hammers were keen on bringing the 22-year-old on loan this summer.
He later reported that he turned down the Hammers to stay at Juve, but we now understand that despite being axed from the Champions League squad, he’s keen on fighting for a spot in Max Allegri’s plans.
Pellegrini would be the future first choice at West Ham, and given Aaron Cresswell’s age, he could’ve made that position his own at the London Stadium very soon.
However, he preferred to stay in Italy and has not even been registered for their Champions League squad.
There certainly must be a feeling of regret as the 22-year-old could’ve been getting regular playing time at the London Stadium.
The Hammers not signing another left-back may also prove to be damning for them and it remains to be seen whether or not they look to sign one in January.
Thus far, Arthur Masuaku could serve as an able deputy, but if the Hammers are to reach the next level then they do need a player like Pellegrini in their ranks.
However, if we were Moyes, we would push for signing another left-back in the January window.
