Darren Bent: Michail Antonio should have got an England cap
West Ham forward Michail Antonio should have been capped for England in the past two seasons, believes Darren Bent.
The former Premier League striker has been impressed with the 31-year-old’s performances over the last 24 months.
He believes that Antonio has improved on plenty of aspects in his game and has continued to deliver with goals and assists for his side.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent, who also frequently appears on Sky Sports, said, “He’s underrated. If you look at his form over the last couple of seasons, he should’ve at least got near an England squad and a cap.
“His power, his finishing, his hold-up play’s got better. I’m not saying he’s a starter for England, but he should’ve got at least an England cap.
“I think he’s been brilliant. He’s top drawer, really.”
There was a lot spoken about the Hammers not signing a striker this summer, but three games into the new season and few will be complaining about it.
That’s because the start Antonio has had to the season has been like none other and he’s deservedly been getting all the plaudits that have come his way.
He’s bagged four goals in his first three games and has also provided three more assists.
His phenomenal performances both in terms of scoring and setting up goals led to him being named August’s Player of the Month in the Premier League.
Hammers fans will be hoping that more of the same continues as the now Jamaica international seems to have taken his game to the next level.
