Julen Lopetegui signs West Ham United contract with new appointment now close

Julen Lopetegui has already signed his contract to take charge at West Ham United, according to AS.

The Spanish outlet has reported that the Irons’ contract offer for Lopetegui was successful and meant that they beat both AC Milan and Bayern Munich to the former Wolves manager.

Lopetegui has not been publicly appointed by the Hammers yet, but after the club confirmed on 6 May that David Moyes would be leaving, an announcement on Lopetegui could now be imminent.

Lopetegui appointment begins West Ham upheaval this summer

West Ham are set to undergo a huge period of change this summer, with Lopetegui now confirmed to be at the head of a transition away from an experienced but ageing squad currently at the London Stadium.

Several players, particularly defenders, are coming towards the end of their Hammers contracts, while top talents like Lucas Paqueta have been the subject of links to moves away for big money this summer.

Lopetegui will be keen to begin West Ham’s transfer business as soon as possible, setting plans in place for the players he wants in the positions he feels need strengthening ahead of the new season.

There are several big hitters on the Irons’ board with plenty of capital behind them, and even without European football on offer – which looks all but impossible after recent poor form in the Premier League – the London Stadium under Lopetegui’s leadership will be an exciting prospect for potential signings.

Everyone is still waiting for a formal announcement regarding Lopetegui’s appointment from West Ham, but as soon as it comes, a busy window of summer transfer business will kick-start into life.
