ExWHUemployee: West Ham United line up Jannik Vestergaard as Craig Dawson replacement

West Ham United have lined up Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard as a replacement for Craig Dawson should he leave the London Stadium according to ExWHUemployee.

It’s understood that Dawson is unhappy with the commute that he has to make from Manchester each week and Wolves and Aston Villa are interested in signing the 32-year-old defender.

Ex wrote on his Patreon page on Tuesday 30 August that Vestergaard is an option, along with current Southampton defender Jan Bednarek, according to The Sun’s Jack Rosser (30 August).

It’s also understood that the club have other replacements lined up.

There were plenty of questions when Dawson signed for the Hammers, but he has proven to be a colossus for the Irons in recent years, despite entering the latter stage of his career.

Dawson joined the Irons from Watford in 2020 and has gone on to enjoy the best years of his career after he went past the age of 30.

Vestergaard is in a very similar position, with the former Southampton man experienced in the Premier League and looking to revive his career.

West Ham

The Danish international should look at the success of Dawson at West Ham and see a move to the London Stadium as a great chance to regain some form under the stewardship of David Moyes.

Vestergaard is 6ft 5 inches and is exactly the type of defender that Moyes likes to have in his side, with a strong physical presence and aerial ability of high importance to the Scot.

If Dawson is unhappy or doesn’t want to remain at the club then it’s crucial that the Hammers move him on in the next couple of days.

Moyes cannot afford to have an unhappy player who isn’t playing on his books up until the January window.
