Everton defender Michael Keane will be perfect stopgap option for West Ham United and David Moyes

While Everton defender Michael Keane may not be a long-term fit for West Ham, David Moyes would love him as a stopgap option in January.

The Hammers confirmed that Kurt Zouma has sustained a knee injury and is expected to miss several weeks of action once football resumes.

It’s understood that the Frenchman could even miss up to four months of action – leaving Moyes with a huge problem in defence.

West Ham

Nayef Aguerd has not featured too much for the Hammers as he picked up a long-term injury after moving to the London Stadium.

However, he now seems to have regained his fitness and even featured regularly at the World Cup.

To partner him, Zouma would’ve been ideal but his injury will mean Craig Dawson or Angelo Ogbonna are the other options.

Dawson has been decent but playing twice in a week may be too much for him while the Italian is also returning from a long-term injury.

The Liverpool Echo reported on 1 December that three clubs are keen on signing the Everton defender in the January window with the Hammers being one of them.

Signing Keane on loan would mean West Ham not paying anything in transfers and he will serve as a backup or a rotational option for the club.

Moyes will like him as he’s akin to an old school defender who’s strong in the tackle, good at marking and decent in the air.

The duo have previously worked at Manchester United as well so it makes a lot of sense to make this reunion happen even if it’s only for four months.
