West Ham United target Michael Keane set for Everton January loan exit

West Ham United transfer target Michael Keane is set to leave Everton on loan in January with the defender out of favour at Goodison Park, according to the Liverpool Echo.

90min suggested (30 November) the Irons “could explore” a deal for the 29-year-old, with Craig Dawson’s future at the London Stadium looking uncertain.

It appears there was substance to their initial report, with the Hammers now understood to be one of eight clubs vying for the Everton man’s services (Liverpool Echo, 1 December).

Leicester and Fulham are the other two clubs which have been named by the Echo, with 12-times England international Keane now looking extremely likely to depart the club in the coming weeks.

Dawson replacement

This would be a smart piece of business from the Hammers with Dawson looking likely to depart the club in January. The 32-year-old has made no secret of his desire to move closer to his family home, and most West Ham fans will wish the defender well if he does depart.

Kurt Zouma’s injury could well have forced David Moyes’ hand with the Frenchman set for a considerable spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery. Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer will more than likely be the Scot’s central defensive partnership for the coming weeks. However, with Zouma out, the Hammers do look light in terms of defensive options off the bench.

Getting another defender through the doors at the London Stadium has to be the priority for Moyes next month. It’s going to be intriguing to see if the board back him again in the winter window, with a number of his summer signings failing to live up to expectations.
